This is my final theme project, a bowl thrown on the wheel. This bowl is 9 inches wide and 3.5 inches tall. For the shape, I wanted to go more bowl shape on the bottom half, but almost flare it out as it gets to the rim. The colors I used were candy apple red, purplelicious, and cobalt blue stain. A new skill I learned was combining two different bowl styles into one, a traditional style with a wider, serving bowl style on top. The elements I used while making this project were the colors, brought out by the unity they had with one another. A feeling or mood I wanted to convey with this project was the feeling of a theme between this project and the other 2.
This is my second of three theme projects, a bowl thrown on the wheel. The bowl is 7.75 inches in width and 3.5 inches tall. The bowl is slightly wider than the first theme bowl. but the rate at which the bowl curves is steeper and makes it look taller. The colors I used on the bowl were candy apple red, purplelicious, and cobalt stain. A new skill I learned while making this project was when pulling the wall, I left the lip straight up rather than slightly outwards, hoping to give it a taller feel. Main elements I used in these projects was large amounts of color, brought out by the unity and harmony of the colors I used. A feeling or emotion I wanted to convey was the sense of a main theme throughout all of the bowls.
This is my first of three theme projects, a bowl thrown on the wheel. The bowl has an even shape, the anticipated shape of a bowl. This bowl is 7.5 inches wide and 3 inches tall. The colors that I used were candy apple red, purplelicious, and cobalt stain. A new skill I learned while making this projects was lightly carving the project to create small ridges leading to the foot ring. The main elements I used in this project was color, emphasized by the unity and harmony of the colors I used. A feeling or mood I wanted to create was the presence of a theme between all three of my bowls.
This is my multi-wheel frankenpot project thrown on the wheel. The project is 10 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide at it's largest point. The inside of the frankenpot is completely smooth, while on the outside I created lines near the top with a rib, while I did a slice pattern at the base for the footing. The colors I used was a white glaze on the inside, with a lavender base with cobalt splotches on the outside. A new skill I learned while making this project was combining a project with clear glaze after attempting to attach it the normal way and failing. An art element I used was color, shown by the combination of the lavender and cobalt glazes on the outside to create the design element unity/harmony with the like color scheme. A feeling or mood I wanted to convey was spring showers. shown by the cool color scheme with the bright white on the inside.
This is the frankenpot that Rosie and I made together. I threw the top of the project and put it together, while Rosie threw the base and glazed it for us. Something I found rewarding was offering Rosie help with making the base but she was very determined to make it on her own, which I was proud of.
This is my two plates project thrown on the wheel. Both of the plates are 7.5 inches across and 1.5 inches tall. both of the plates have a smooth surface, but the left one has more of a rim than the right. The colors I used on these plates was a coating of white, followed by dabbing of red and blue on top. A new skill I learned while making these projects was using the calipers in order to measure an even eating area for both of the plates. An art element would have to be space, which brings out the design element of balance between the two forms. A feeling or mood I wanted to convey was patriotism. While I am not very patriotic, I liked the idea of eating on these plates during an event like the 4th of July.
This is my double wall project thrown on the wheel. The project is 4 inches tall and it has a triangular pattern carved into it to show the hollow space between the two walls. The colors I used on this project was a coating of white, followed by a dabbing of red, blue, and purple. A new skill I learned while making this project was actually learning how to execute a double walled project. A design element I used was pattern, shown by the repeating triangular pattern carved into the side. An art element was space, shown by the negative space between the two walls of the project and the triangle holes in the main wall. A feeling or mood I wanted to convey was curiosity and wanting people to try and think of how it is a single piece of clay, but there is space in the middle.
This is the frankenpot that Thomas and I made together. We had to have a two- person group due to an absence in our group. I threw the middle top pieces and joined it all, while Thomas threw the base and glazed it so we would be doing even work. I had a lot of fun making a very different shaped frankenpot this semester.
